Overview

Zinc finger protein 706 (ZNF706) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factor family and is encoded by the ZNF706 gene located at chromosome 8q22.3[1][2][6]. It is primarily localized in the nucleus and acts as a transcriptional repressor, involved in regulating gene expression by binding DNA through its C-terminal zinc finger domain[1][6]. ZNF706 is implicated in repressing the expression of KLF4 and the exit of embryonic stem cells from self-renewal[2][6]. Experimentally, ZNF706 has been identified as an oncogenic factor in several cancers, most notably hepatocellular carcinoma, where its overexpression predicts poor patient survival[1]. It regulates sensitivity to ferroptosis through transcriptional activation of the SLC7A11 gene, impacting redox homeostasis in cancer cells[1]. While no direct drug interactions are currently reported, ZNF706 represents a potential therapeutic target, particularly in cancer. Elevated ZNF706 expression is considered a potential prognostic biomarker in liver cancer[1].
