Zinc finger protein 708 (ZNF708)

Target
ZNF708
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein (C2H2-type domain, among the largest group of zinc finger proteins in eukaryotes)
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 708 (ZNF708) is a member of the zinc finger family of transcription factors. It contains classical C2H2-type zinc finger domains that enable it to bind DNA and regulate transcription, probably through interaction with RNA polymerase II-specific cis-regulatory regions[2][4]. The zinc finger protein family is the most abundant transcription factor class in eukaryotes, playing roles in genome stability, DNA damage repair, and cell proliferation[1]. ZNF708 is predicted to act in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription and is expressed in many tissues[2][3]. While some zinc finger proteins are established as therapeutic targets due to their roles in disease, ZNF708 itself is not yet a characterized target for drug development, nor are there established drugs or mechanisms of action involving this protein[2][4]. Diseases associated with ZNF708 include certain ovarian and testicular cancers, but its direct role in these diseases remains unclear[2].

Disease associations

Cancer (association with small-cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type; testicular granulosa cell tumor)Other (potentially involved in genome stability and DNA repair, but specific disease roles for ZNF708 are limited; most disease associations for zinc finger proteins as a family include cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders)
