Zinc finger protein 71 is a transcription factor from the zinc finger protein family, the largest family of transcription regulators in the human genome. It contains zinc finger domains that enable it to bind DNA and regulate gene expression, primarily modulating transcription by interacting with RNA polymerase II, and is localized in the nucleus. Expression of zinc finger proteins is frequently deregulated in malignancies, including osteosarcoma and other cancers, making some family members candidates for cancer biomarkers and prognosis prediction. ZNF71 has been specifically identified as a component in a gene signature associated with prognosis in osteosarcoma, although its individual expression did not significantly impact survival compared to other family members. No drugs are currently known to target ZNF71, and there are no particular safety concerns related to its modulation.
