Overview

Zinc finger protein 714 (ZNF714) is a member of the KRAB-containing zinc finger protein family, which constitute one of the largest families of transcription factors in humans. As a zinc finger protein, it is predicted to bind DNA in a sequence-specific manner, likely regulating gene expression at the level of RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. ZNF714 contains a KRAB domain, usually involved in epigenetic repression, and an array of 14 zinc finger motifs. While definitive protein-level functional studies are sparse, transcriptomic analyses and functional knockdown experiments in cancer cell lines indicate that ZNF714 may influence cellular pathways related to proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and cell adhesion. ZNF714 is commonly overexpressed in multiple types of tumors, particularly lung cancer, and its expression is associated with immunosuppressive features and oncogenic phenotypes. Despite these associations, the exact molecular mechanisms, clinical significance, and potential as a direct therapeutic target remain to be clarified.
