Zinc finger protein 718 (ZNF718)

Target
ZNF718
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, DNA-binding protein, Nuclear protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 718 (ZNF718) is a predicted human transcription factor, part of the large zinc finger protein family, characterized by zinc finger DNA-binding domains and thought to regulate gene expression by binding specific cis-regulatory elements in the genome. ZNF718 is believed to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity specific to RNA polymerase II and may be involved in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription, primarily located in the cell nucleus. ZNF718, like many C2H2-type zinc finger proteins, may play roles in transcriptional activation or repression, but specific target genes, interacting partners, or physiological functions have not been established experimentally. There is no current evidence that ZNF718 functions as a therapeutic target or is implicated directly in disease pathways.

Mechanism of action

None known. No drugs or small molecules are known to target ZNF718, so no mechanisms of action are defined.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of transcription (DNA-templated)DNA bindingRNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activityLikely regulatory roles in gene expression (as inferred from zinc finger motifs and general ZNF family function)
04

Disease associations

No direct, established role in disease as a driver or biomarker, but listed in genomic loci with Warburg Micro Syndrome 1 and Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, which might reflect chromosomal proximity rather than causative involvement.Zinc finger proteins as a class are involved in cancer, developmental disorders, and other diseases, but a disease-modifying role for ZNF718 specifically is not established. No direct mechanistic or validated biomarker evidence for ZNF718 in disease causation or therapy selection.
