Overview

Zinc finger protein 726 (ZNF726) is a member of the zinc finger protein family that is predicted to enable DNA binding and zinc ion binding activity and is believed to participate principally in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription processes[1][7][9]. Emerging studies indicate that ZNF726 is significantly overexpressed in several cancers, including breast cancer, where it acts as a functional oncogene: its upregulation enhances cell proliferation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and tumor invasion, while silencing reduces these malignant properties[2][3][4]. ZNF726 expression may be modulated by factors such as cold stress and cholesterol levels, suggesting a role in the interdependent regulation of cholesterol metabolic pathways and oncogenesis[2][4]. Although classified as a transcription factor and not currently a therapeutic drug target or receptor, its implication in cancer progression makes it a gene of potential interest in oncology research[1][9][7].
