It is homologous to the zinc finger protein 736 gene, itself predicted to encode a DNA-binding transcription factor, but ZNF736P9Y lacks coding potential and is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional protein product[10][3][4][9]. While some pseudogenes can generate noncoding RNAs with potential regulatory functions, there is no established evidence that ZNF736P9Y produces such transcripts or has a functional biological role.
