Zinc finger protein 736 pseudogene 9, Y-linked (ZNF736P9Y) is a pseudogene located on the human Y chromosome, annotated as HGNC:38408. It is homologous to the zinc finger protein 736 gene, itself predicted to encode a DNA-binding transcription factor, but ZNF736P9Y lacks coding potential and is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional protein product[10][3][4][9]. While some pseudogenes can generate noncoding RNAs with potential regulatory functions, there is no established evidence that ZNF736P9Y produces such transcripts or has a functional biological role. Like other pseudogenes, ZNF736P9Y could hypothetically participate in gene regulation through RNA-based mechanisms (e.g., as a competing endogenous RNA or microRNA decoy), but specific evidence for this at ZNF736P9Y is lacking[8]. There are no drugs, mechanisms, or disease biomarkers directly associated with ZNF736P9Y. Some high-throughput or CRISPR-based screens have included it among many Y-linked loci when assessing genomic or regulatory elements in cancer contexts, but without demonstrable functional impact[2].
