The Zinc finger protein 738 pseudogene (ENSG00000269839) is a genomic sequence with high similarity to the ZNF738 protein-coding gene but contains mutations or deletions that prevent the production of a functional zinc finger protein[11][5]. While the parental gene, ZNF738, is predicted to have DNA-binding ability and ubiquitin-protein transferase activity, and may play roles in transcriptional regulation[1][9], its pseudogene is considered non-functional, with no known biological activity, no established role in disease, and no relevance as a drug target. Pseudogenes sometimes produce non-coding RNAs with regulatory roles but this is not documented for ZNF738 pseudogene specifically[5]. In conclusion, Zinc finger protein 738 pseudogene is not a functional therapeutic target and should not be considered as such in drug discovery or biomarker studies[11][5].
