Overview

Zinc finger protein 74 (ZNF74) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, specifically classified within the KRAB-ZNF (Krüppel-associated box) subfamily[2]. ZNF74 functions as a transcription factor, binding DNA to regulate the expression of specific genes, often through chromatin remodeling and interactions with other components of the transcription machinery[2]. The ZNF74 gene encodes a protein possessing multiple C2H2-type zinc finger repeats and a KRAB domain, both characteristic of DNA-binding transcriptional regulators that also recruit cofactors for gene repression or activation; it plays significant roles in brain development, neural differentiation, and possibly in neurodevelopmental diseases when disrupted, as seen in certain chromosomal abnormalities[2]. There is currently no evidence to support its status as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers associated with it.
