Overview

Zinc finger protein 76 (ZNF76) is a DNA-binding transcription factor in the Krueppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family[3][4][6]. It acts as a general transcriptional repressor, targeting TATA-binding protein (TBP), and its activity is regulated by post-translational modifications such as sumoylation and acetylation[2][7]. ZNF76 is predicted to play roles in the positive and negative regulation of gene transcription, particularly in central nervous system and embryonic development, with important expression in the brain, eyes, and midbrain–hindbrain boundary during embryogenesis[2]. Despite its clear function as a transcriptional regulator, there are currently no established roles for ZNF76 as a therapeutic target, nor any drugs that act on it. Additionally, some confusion exists in alias names, as ZNF523 and ZNF76 are separate genes/proteins[3]; this target's aliases should omit "ZNF523" and related Zfp523 entries.
