Zinc finger protein 764 (ZNF764) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger, Krüppel-type (KRAB-ZNF) protein family, which consists of over 800 transcription factors in humans. ZNF764 contains seven C-terminal C2H2 zinc finger domains and one N-terminal KRAB-A domain, characteristic of proteins that regulate transcription via specific DNA binding and interaction with other transcriptional regulators. It primarily functions as a transcriptional coregulator and cofactor for steroid hormone receptors such as the glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene expression in response to steroid hormones. ZNF764 is implicated in adaptive evolution via its roles in regulating organ- and species-specific gene expression. Disease associations include resistance to glucocorticoids, and it has been linked to thyroid hormone resistance syndrome and sex reversal syndromes. There are no known drugs or established mechanisms of drug action directly targeting ZNF764, nor are there described clinical biomarkers or safety concerns specific to this protein.
