Overview

Zinc finger protein 77 (ZNF77) is a member of the zinc finger transcription factor family, characterized by C2H2-type zinc finger domains that facilitate sequence-specific binding to DNA. It is predicted to regulate transcription by RNA polymerase II and localizes primarily to the nucleus. ZNF77 is associated with several disease processes, including tuberculous epididymitis and anorectal stricture, and may play a role in host susceptibility to fungal colonization. Its typical molecular function involves regulation of gene expression through interaction with cis-regulatory DNA elements. ZNF77 is one of several hundred zinc finger proteins in humans. Although the functional details of ZNF77 specifically are relatively sparse, zinc finger proteins as a class are essential for chromatin remodeling, transcriptional regulation, and genome stability. The ZNF77 gene is located on chromosome 19 and has been described in databases such as UniProt (Q15935), NCBI Gene (58492), and GeneCards. There is no current evidence of drug-targeting or therapeutic exploitation of ZNF77, nor prominent safety concerns or mechanism of drug action in clinical context as of now.
