Zinc finger protein 787 (ZNF787)

Target
ZNF787
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 787 is a human transcription factor characterized by multiple zinc finger domains. Experimental studies suggest ZNF787 acts as a negative regulator of tight junction proteins such as occludin and claudin-5, particularly in the context of increased blood-brain barrier permeability in Alzheimer's disease models. Mechanistic data indicate ZNF787 interacts with HDAC1 to suppress transcription of tight junction genes, thereby modulating blood-brain barrier integrity and inflammation. ZNF787 may also be involved in genetic fusion events in cancer, but is not established as a direct therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (No drugs targeting ZNF787 have been described; its own function is transcriptional regulation, particularly repressing tight junction genes through HDAC1 interaction)

03

Biological functions

Transcriptional regulation (may regulate occludin and claudin-5 expression at the blood-brain barrier)Gene expression modulation
04

Disease associations

Neurodegenerative disease (implicated in Alzheimer's disease through its role in blood-brain barrier permeability)Other (Possible roles in cancer via fusion proteins, e.g., ZNF814-ZNF787 fusion)
