Overview

Zinc finger protein 79 (ZNF79) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which are among the largest and most diverse families of transcription factors in the human genome[1][2][7]. ZNF79 is predicted to function as a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor involved in the regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and is primarily localized in the nucleus[2][7]. It is classified as a transcription factor due to its zinc finger domain, which allows binding to specific DNA sequences to regulate gene expression. While certain zinc finger proteins have roles in cancer and other diseases, there is currently no evidence that ZNF79 itself is a validated therapeutic target or biomarker[1][2][3]. ZNF79 is associated with some neurological and retinal diseases, such as macular dystrophy (patterned, type 3) and apperceptive agnosia, but its direct pathogenic or therapeutic significance remains to be established[2][7]. No known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns are specifically linked to this target.
