Overview

Zinc finger protein 83 (ZNF83) is a member of the Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which acts as a transcription factor and is involved in the regulation of gene expression via DNA binding. Located on chromosome 19q13.41, ZNF83 participates in fundamental cellular processes including transcriptional repression, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and maintaining genomic integrity. It is differentially expressed across multiple cancer types, with upregulation associated with poor prognosis in renal cell carcinoma and downregulation in other tumor contexts, suggesting a context-dependent role in tumor progression. ZNF83 is emerging as a potential prognostic biomarker, especially in kidney cancer, but its utility as a direct drug target has not yet been established[2][4][5].
