Zinc finger protein 875 (ZNF875, also known as HKR1, Krueppel-related zinc finger protein 1) is a human protein encoded by the HKR1 gene located on chromosome 19. It belongs to the KRAB (Krüppel-associated box) zinc finger protein (KRAB-ZFP) family, which represents a large class of DNA-binding transcription factors involved in transcriptional repression and epigenetic regulation. These proteins typically function by binding specific DNA sequences and recruiting the co-repressor KAP1, leading to chromatin modification and gene silencing. KRAB-ZFPs, including ZNF875/HKR1, are implicated in diverse cellular processes—most notably regulation of gene expression, development, and potentially oncogenic transformation. High expression of related KRAB-ZFPs has been associated with oncogenesis in some cancer types, but the specific biological functions and disease relevance of ZNF875 itself are not comprehensively defined in the current literature. No direct pharmacological targeting or clinical biomarker use has been reported for ZNF875.
