Zinc finger protein 90 homolog (ZFP90) is a member of the zinc finger protein family characterized by the presence of C2H2-type zinc finger domains and, in some isoforms, a KRAB domain[1][2]. Zinc finger proteins are the largest family of transcription factors in the human genome, typically acting as regulators of gene expression through sequence-specific DNA binding, but also participating in other biological processes such as RNA binding and protein-protein interactions[2][3][4]. ZFP90 in particular has been implicated in the regulation of self-renewal and maintenance of hematopoietic stem cells and is highly expressed in those cells as compared to more differentiated progenitors[1]. While the role of ZFP90 in most diseases is not thoroughly characterized, the zinc finger family more broadly is linked to tumorigenesis and cancer progression, and ZFP90 itself may participate in such processes indirectly through transcriptional regulation[2]. There are currently no known direct drug interactions, biomarkers, or safety concerns specifically associated with ZFP90.
