Overview

Zinc finger protein 91 homolog is a nuclear protein and transcription factor encoded by the human ZFP91 (also ZNF91) gene on chromosome 19. It contains multiple C2H2-type zinc finger domains, a KRAB domain, and functions in DNA binding to regulate the expression of various genes. ZFP91 is critical for the suppression of SVA retrotransposons by binding to their sequences and assembling a repressive complex with TRIM28/KAP1. It also regulates gene promoters and is involved in activating the non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathway via NIK ubiquitinization. Overexpression of ZFP91 has been linked to increased tumor proliferation, migration, invasion, and chemoresistance, particularly in pancreatic and other cancers. Overall, Zinc finger protein 91 homolog represents an important transcriptional regulator with clinical significance in oncology and potentially other human diseases.
