Overview

Zinc finger protein PLAGL2 (PLAGL2) is a C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factor that binds specific DNA sequences and regulates target gene expression, impacting cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and migration[3][4][5]. PLAGL2 is part of the pleiomorphic adenoma gene (PLAG) family, which is implicated in oncogenesis. In cancer, PLAGL2 has been shown to promote progression by controlling pathways involved in cell cycle and epithelial-mesenchymal transition—such as promoting proliferation and migration in gastric cancer cells through interactions with proteins like USP37 and Snail1[4]. It also plays broader roles in development and in the regulation of stemness and differentiation in some cell types. As with other zinc finger proteins, PLAGL2 executes its functions via DNA-binding and modulation of gene transcription, often acting as a transcriptional activator or repressor depending on the cellular context[3][5][1].
