Zinc finger protein with KRAB and SCAN domains 8 (ZKSCAN8) is a transcription factor belonging to the ZSCAN/CD2H2 zinc finger protein family, characterized by the presence of a KRAB transcriptional repression domain and a SCAN oligomerization domain, in addition to multiple zinc finger motifs that bind DNA. ZKSCAN8, like other members of its family, is implicated in diverse gene regulatory activities and may play roles in apoptosis, proliferation, cell migration, and differentiation. While ZSCAN and broader ZNF family proteins are increasingly recognized for their involvement in cancer biology, specific disease roles for ZKSCAN8 remain not fully elucidated. It is not currently known to be directly targeted by therapeutic drugs, nor used as a clinical biomarker. Its primary contribution appears to be in modulating gene transcription networks relevant to cellular homeostasis and possibly tumor progression.
