Zinc finger RAN-binding domain-containing protein 2 (ZRANB2)

Target
ZRANB2
Molecular classification
Zinc finger protein, RNA-binding protein, Splicing factor
01

Overview

Zinc finger RAN-binding domain-containing protein 2 (ZRANB2) is a highly conserved and widely expressed protein containing two RanBP2-type zinc finger domains that specifically recognize RNA motifs (AGGUAA), enabling it to bind pre-mRNA and regulate alternative splicing[1][2][3][4]. ZRANB2 lacks classic RNA recognition motifs but directly influences splice site selection through its unique zinc finger domains[1][2][3]. It acts as an integral component of the supraspliceosome and is essential for the correct splicing of various transcripts, including those relevant to tumor progression and chemoresistance, particularly in breast cancer where it modulates the response to doxorubicin through alternative splicing of genes such as ECT2[4]. Phosphorylation may regulate its activity and subcellular localization, further modulating its effects on splicing[4].
