Zinc transporter ZIP11 (SLC39A11) is a membrane protein within the SLC39 (ZIP) family, responsible for the import of zinc, and also regulates manganese homeostasis in vertebrates[4][5]. ZIP11 is localized to the plasma membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, and Golgi apparatus[3][1]. It is highly expressed in the stomach and colon, especially in mucosal and parietal cells, and its levels respond to dietary zinc and manganese exposure[1][4]. ZIP11 helps maintain cellular and nuclear zinc levels, which are critical for cellular integrity, cell cycle regulation, and possibly processes related to aging and longevity[1][4].
