ZKSCAN7 zinc finger cluster antisense RNA 1 (ZKSCAN7-AS1), also known as RP11-944L7.4 and formerly ZNF197-AS1, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located at chromosome 3p21.31[1][7]. As an antisense RNA, it is transcribed from the strand opposite to the protein-coding ZKSCAN7 locus; its sequence is complementary to the sense mRNA. Like other antisense lncRNAs, ZKSCAN7-AS1 may regulate gene expression of the associated (sense) gene through a range of mechanisms, including altering chromatin structure, modulating transcription, or affecting mRNA stability via transcriptional interference or RNA-RNA interactions[2]. Its exact biological function and potential roles in disease processes have not been well characterized. Currently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting RNA.
