Zn-regulated GTPase metalloprotein activator 1A (ZNG1A) is a vertebrate protein functioning as a metallochaperone within the COG0523 family of GTPases. It has GTPase and zinc chaperone activities and is functionally required for maintaining cellular zinc homeostasis by facilitating the intracellular allocation and trafficking of zinc ions to specific zinc metalloproteins, such as methionine aminopeptidase 1 (METAP1). ZNG1A is widely expressed in tissues, including the kidney, and is subcellularly localized to the nucleus. While not a direct pharmacological target, ZNG1A is essential for zinc-dependent biological processes, especially under conditions of zinc limitation, and may play broad roles in vertebrate zinc physiology.
