Overview

ZNF143 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF143-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the ZNF143 gene. Its biological role remains to be fully elucidated, but as an antisense transcript, it may modulate the expression of the ZNF143 transcription factor gene post-transcriptionally or epigenetically. ZNF143-AS1 is sometimes differentially expressed in cancers and other disease contexts, suggesting possible functions in gene regulation and cell proliferation. While several studies have investigated ZNF143 (the sense gene) as a transcription factor with roles in gene activation, repression, and cancer biology[1][3], ZNF143-AS1 itself is not a protein and is generally not considered a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Its primary scientific interest currently lies in its use as a non-coding RNA biomarker or potential regulator of ZNF143 or nearby gene expression. Notes: - ZNF143-AS1 should not be confused with the ZNF143 protein, which is a well-studied transcription factor involved in chromatin interactions, gene regulation, and cancer[1][3]. - ZNF143-AS1 is not itself an enzyme, transcription factor, nor a canonical receptor/target for drugs. It is not known to directly interact with approved therapeutic agents. - If a well-defined molecular function or drug interaction for ZNF143-AS1 is discovered in future research, that would update its classification and potential as a therapeutic target. - See also: ZNF143 (the sense gene), which is a transcription factor and distinct from ZNF143-AS1.
