Target intelligence / Profile preview
ZNF213 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF213-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene located in the human genome, transcribed antisense to the ZNF213 gene, and also referred to as ZNF213 antisense RNA 1 (head to head)[2][1]. ZNF213-AS1 is highly conserved in placental mammals and is moderately expressed in specific cell types, such as human dermal fibroblasts, where it is enriched in the chromatin-bound fraction[1]. Functional studies reveal that knockdown of ZNF213-AS1 leads to reduced cell growth and proliferation, as well as impaired cell motility, mainly mediated through the modulation of gene expression programs related to cell cycle, stress response, and extracellular matrix organization[1]. Elevated expression of ZNF213-AS1 has been observed in some cancers, notably acute myeloid leukemia and low-grade gliomas, supporting a possible role in tumorigenesis, differentiation, and progression[1]. Despite its functional annotations, ZNF213-AS1 is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target, as there are no known pharmacological agents or drugs developed to target it, nor is there a defined mechanism of action for drug targeting. Instead, it may serve as a candidate biomarker for tumor diagnosis, prognosis, or further study in cancer biology.
