ZNF248 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF248-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA molecule transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the ZNF248 gene locus. As an antisense lncRNA, it likely functions in regulating gene expression of its sense partner ZNF248, either through direct RNA-RNA interactions or recruitment of chromatin-modifying proteins, as is common for antisense lncRNAs. This class of lncRNAs plays a role in epigenetic regulation, transcriptional and post-transcriptional control, but there is currently no direct evidence linking ZNF248-AS1 to specific diseases or therapeutic interventions. No drugs or biomarker roles are established for ZNF248-AS1 at this time.
Not applicable for drugs, but as a molecule, mechanisms may include RNA-RNA hybridization to regulate sense ZNF248 mRNA expression, chromatin modification, or recruitment of RNA-binding proteins, similar to other antisense lncRNAs
