Overview

ZNF252P antisense RNA 1 (ZNF252P-AS1) is a **long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)** gene located on chromosome 8 (also referenced in some databases as chromosome 19, likely due to updates in genome annotation)[2][5][6]. This transcript is non-protein-coding and functions primarily by regulating gene expression at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, in part through interactions with proteins such as HNRNPK and ILF3 involved in nuclear and cytoplasmic phase separation[4]. ZNF252P-AS1 modulates cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and the EMT process in cancer, particularly in ovarian cancer, where its upregulation corresponds with increased tumor aggressiveness and poorer patient survival[1]. Mechanistically, ZNF252P-AS1 acts as a competing endogenous RNA, sponging miR-324-3p, thereby upregulating LY6K and facilitating pro-tumorigenic pathways[1]. Although ZNF252P-AS1 is considered a promising research marker in oncology, there are no known approved drugs directly targeting it, and it is not classified as a canonical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][4].
