ZNF277 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF277-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 7 (chr7:112,327,888-112,444,682, hg38). ZNF277-AS1 is transcribed on the antisense strand relative to the protein-coding ZNF277 gene. While antisense lncRNAs can regulate the expression of their sense counterpart genes, no specific functional, mechanistic, or disease associations have yet been attributed to ZNF277-AS1 in the peer-reviewed literature. It is not implicated as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there drugs or biomarkers associated with it. Most functional information in the vicinity pertains to the protein-coding ZNF277 gene, which encodes a zinc finger protein involved in transcriptional regulation and colon cancer biology; however, these functions are distinct from those of the antisense RNA transcript. Key Distinguishing Note: All major biological and disease associations reported in prominent recent studies relate to the ZNF277 protein (a transcription factor and colorectal cancer oncogene/tumor suppressor), not to ZNF277-AS1. The antisense RNA remains highly uncharacterized in function, disease relevance, and as a pharmacological target.
