Overview

ZNF385D antisense RNA 1 (ZNF385D-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the ZNF385D gene, located on chromosome 3 (chr3:21542789-21579959 hg38)[4][6]. It does not encode a protein and has been studied primarily as a regulator of gene expression, particularly through interactions with microRNA pathways and possible modulation of target mRNAs[1]. ZNF385D-AS1 has been reported as a prognostic biomarker in several cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), where its low expression has been correlated with advanced disease stages and poor survival. The specific biological roles linked through gene set enrichment and co-expression analyses include growth factor activity, cell development, regulation of the MAPK cascade, positive regulation of cell division, and SMAD protein signal transduction[1]. However, no drugs or therapeutic agents directly target ZNF385D-AS1, nor is there evidence that it is currently considered a therapeutic target itself; rather, its main clinically relevant application is as a biomarker[1][6].
