ZNF433-AS1 is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene that overlaps the ZNF433 and ZNF878 loci. Its presumed primary molecular function is the regulation of the expression of its sense-strand gene counterparts, ZNF433 and ZNF878, both of which are KRAB domain-containing zinc finger proteins potentially involved in transcriptional regulation and tumor suppression. There is currently no direct evidence linking ZNF433-AS1 to human disease or therapeutic intervention. Its functional role is inferred from the general properties of antisense RNAs, which typicaly modulate gene expression by binding to complementary mRNAs.
