Like other antisense RNAs, it is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to a protein-coding gene—in this case, the ZNF497 locus[1]. Antisense long non-coding RNAs can regulate gene expression in diverse ways, including chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, and post-transcriptional regulation; however, there is no experimentally confirmed functional characterization or disease relevance of ZNF497-AS2 specifically[1][2][3].
