Overview

ZNF529 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF529-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the ZNF529 gene. It is highly expressed in certain cancers, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it is closely associated with pathological stage, tumour grade, and poor prognosis. Functionally, ZNF529-AS1 promotes the invasion and migration of HCC cells and inhibits immune cell-mediated killing of tumour cells, likely contributing to immune evasion and tumour progression. Mechanistically, ZNF529-AS1 regulates the expression of downstream targets such as FBXO31, and its activity is linked to the modulation of immune checkpoint molecules (including CD80, PD-1, and CD276). These functions position ZNF529-AS1 as a candidate prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in HCC and other cancers; its knockdown may improve sensitivity to targeted drug therapies and enhance immunotherapy response.
