ZNF652 antisense RNA 1 (ZNF652-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the genomic region opposite the ZNF652 gene on chromosome 17q21.33. As an antisense RNA, ZNF652-AS1 may regulate the expression of the ZNF652 sense gene, potentially by mechanisms such as epigenetic modification or formation of RNA-RNA duplexes. Antisense lncRNAs like ZNF652-AS1 are increasingly recognized for roles in modulating gene expression, especially via epigenetic changes such as DNA methylation or histone modification. While some antisense lncRNAs have established roles in cancer and other diseases, direct experimental data on ZNF652-AS1's biological functions and disease associations are currently limited; it is annotated in genetic and GWAS databases, but is not a canonical therapeutic target, nor are there drugs or biomarkers directly established for it.
