ZNF706 neighboring transcript 1 (ZNNT1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene located near the ZNF706 gene on chromosome 8. ZNNT1 is involved in regulating autophagy, cell proliferation, and tumorigenesis in a context-dependent manner. In uveal melanoma, ZNNT1 acts as a tumor suppressor by promoting autophagy and inhibiting tumor cell migration and growth, especially downstream of mTOR inhibition[1]. In colon cancer, ZNNT1 functions as an oncogenic lncRNA, promoting tumorigenicity by destabilizing p53 via interaction with SART3, influencing the protein degradation pathway[4]. ZNNT1's role is under active investigation, with its expression and function linked to key oncogenic and tumor suppressive pathways. It is a potential molecular target in cancer therapy and a candidate biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis[1][4][5].
