ZNF747 divergent transcript (ZNF747-DT) is a primate-specific long non-coding RNA located at chromosome 16p11.2 and transcribed divergently relative to the protein-coding zinc finger gene ZNF747. Divergent transcription is a common process where RNA polymerase II initiates transcription in both directions from CpG-rich promoters, producing upstream antisense RNAs (including lncRNAs such as ZNF747-DT). Such transcripts can be involved in regulatory functions, including the modulation of gene expression and chromatin structure, but for ZNF747-DT, direct biological roles and functional significance remain inadequately characterized as of the current literature. Divergent long non-coding RNAs are frequently associated with protein-coding genes but typically lack stable or well-defined functions, especially for less-studied examples like ZNF747-DT. ZNF747-DT’s locus is precisely mapped, and its classification is reliable per referenced databases, but there is little to no evidence for disease involvement, direct drug targeting, or formal biomarker or safety concern status as of this date.
