The ZNF816-ZNF321P readthrough transcript is a naturally occurring fusion gene product created from read-through transcription between the zinc finger protein 816 gene (ZNF816) and the zinc finger protein 321 pseudogene (ZNF321P) on human chromosome 19. The resulting protein contains a KRAB domain, which is characteristic of transcriptional repressors, and retains sequence identity with the upstream ZNF816 gene product but features a distinct C-terminus contributed by the downstream pseudogene. Although detailed biological roles and molecular functions remain unclear, the protein is predicted to participate in the regulation of gene expression, similar to other zinc finger/KRAB domain proteins. There are currently no known clinical associations, drug interactions, or established roles in disease for ZNF816-ZNF321P; its medical or therapeutic relevance is unknown.
