Zona pellucida-binding protein 2 (ZPBP2) is a protein expressed primarily in the testis and is implicated in processes essential for male fertility, including the assembly of the acrosome—a cap-like structure in sperm—and the binding of sperm to the zona pellucida, which is the protective glycoprotein layer surrounding the oocyte[5][2]. ZPBP2 contains a region structurally related to the hyaluronic acid-binding domain found in hyaladherins such as CD44, suggesting possible roles in cellular adhesion during fertilization[2]. Genetic variations in ZPBP2 have also been associated with susceptibility to childhood-onset asthma, though the mechanism is not directly related to pharmacological targeting[5]. There are no known drugs that target ZPBP2, and it is not classified as a typical drug target or receptor.
