Overview

ZRANB2 antisense RNA 1 (ZRANB2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 1 that is transcribed as an antisense RNA in relation to the ZRANB2 gene[3][5]. It does not encode a protein but rather functions at the RNA level, regulating cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration[3]. ZRANB2-AS1 is believed to interact with proteins, potentially including the splicing factor ZRANB2, and regulate gene expression through mechanisms such as acting as a microRNA sponge[3]. Dysregulation of ZRANB2-AS1 has been linked to cancer, but its precise mechanisms remain poorly understood and are under ongoing investigation; it is not currently known to be a direct therapeutic target or have interacting drugs in clinical use[3][5]. ZRANB2-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding gene ZRANB2, which is a zinc finger splicing factor involved in RNA splicing and implicated in cancer drug resistance[4][7]. ZRANB2-AS1 itself is a regulatory long non-coding RNA, not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or direct drug target.
