Overview

ZRANB2 antisense RNA 2 (ZRANB2-AS2 or ZRANB2-DT) is a long non-coding antisense transcript generated at the ZRANB2 gene locus. Like other antisense RNAs, it is believed to regulate expression of its cognate gene, possibly through cis-acting transcriptional interference, RNA pairing, or modification of chromatin accessibility[4]. Antisense transcripts can modulate sense gene activity either in cis (local chromosomal effects) or in trans (RNA-mediated effects across loci), but direct functional evidence for ZRANB2-DT's biological or disease role is not currently available[4]. It does not encode a protein, nor is it known to serve as a receptor, transporter, or enzyme. There are no drugs or clinical biomarkers targeting ZRANB2-DT, and it is not considered a therapeutic target in current biomedical frameworks. The underlying ZRANB2 gene, conversely, encodes a zinc finger protein with key roles in RNA splicing, cancer biology, and cell cycle control[1][2][3], but ZRANB2-DT refers specifically to the *non-coding* antisense RNA product, not the protein.

Biological functions

Regulation of ZRANB2 gene expression, presumably by antisense-mediated mechanisms including transcriptional interference or RNA-RNA binding[4]May participate in post-transcriptional gene silencing or modulation of splicing, but exact roles are not well defined for ZRANB2-DT specifically[4]General functions of antisense RNAs include gene expression control at replication, transcription, and translation stages[4]

Disease associations

OtherNo clear direct association established with any disease for ZRANB2-DT in the current literatureSome antisense RNAs have shown roles in cancer, inflammation, neurodegenerative and other diseases, but no evidence links ZRANB2-DT specifically[4]
