Overview

**89Zr-rituximab** is a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody used primarily as a diagnostic imaging agent in positron emission tomography (PET). It consists of the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab conjugated to the radioisotope zirconium-89 (usually via a chelator such as DFO). The primary mechanism involves specific binding to CD20 antigen expressed on B cells. This allows for non-invasive visualization and quantification of CD20-positive tumors or tissues using PET imaging. Its main clinical application is in assessing tumor targeting and CD20 expression in patients with B-cell lymphomas such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), especially for evaluating response to anti-CD20 therapies or guiding patient selection[2][4][7]. Unlike therapeutic radio-immunoconjugates, 89Zr-rituximab is not intended for therapy but rather for molecular imaging.
