AAV1 with alpha-fetoprotein reporter gene is an adeno-associated virus serotype 1 (AAV1) vector carrying the gene for alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), utilized primarily as a reporter system in gene therapy research. In the context of cardiac research, it has been employed to evaluate the efficacy of novel delivery methods, such as percutaneous epicardial "gene painting" using specialized catheters. The AFP reporter allows for the measurement of transgene expression density and localization within the myocardium. This specific construct is being used to optimize delivery protocols for future antiarrhythmic gene therapies aimed at preventing ventricular tachycardia (VT) following myocardial infarction.
