Overview

A combination therapy consisting of oral acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and intravitreal ranibizumab, a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor. This combination is primarily studied to mitigate the transient intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes that occur following the intravitreal injection of ranibizumab in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), particularly those with pre-existing glaucoma or who are glaucoma suspects. Acetazolamide acts by reducing the production of aqueous humor, thereby lowering IOP, while ranibizumab targets VEGF-A to inhibit angiogenesis and vascular leakage in the retina.
