Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Active Iron** is a marketed oral dietary iron-supplement formulation developed by Solvotrin Therapeutics in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin. It is a patent-protected iron complex containing ferrous sulfate within a denatured whey-protein isolate and short-chain fatty-acid matrix. The formulation is intended to preserve iron in the absorbable ferrous state, reduce oxidation in the upper gastrointestinal tract, and deliver iron to the small-intestinal absorption site involving divalent metal transporter 1. Active Iron products are marketed to support iron repletion, haemoglobin and red-blood-cell formation, and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue in people with low iron intake or iron deficiency.
