Overview

A combination therapy consisting of adalimumab (a TNF-alpha inhibitor) and metronidazole (a nitroimidazole antibiotic). This combination has been studied specifically for preventing post-operative recurrence in high-risk Crohn's disease patients following intestinal resection. Adalimumab binds to TNF-alpha and blocks its interaction with surface TNF receptors, while metronidazole provides antimicrobial effects. Studies have shown this combination to be superior to thiopurines with metronidazole in preventing early disease recurrence.
