Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ADPO-002NP is a preclinical-stage investigational drug developed by Adipo Therapeutics for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of a Notch signaling pathway inhibitor (ADPO-002) encapsulated within poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles. The drug is designed for once-weekly subcutaneous injection directly into white adipose tissue (WAT). Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the Notch pathway, which triggers the conversion of energy-storing white fat into energy-burning beige or brown fat (a process known as browning). This conversion increases mitochondrial biogenesis and energy expenditure, aiming to achieve weight loss and improved glucose and lipid control without requiring calorie restriction. The nanoparticle formulation is engineered for local delivery and rapid uptake into adipose tissue, which minimizes systemic circulation and reduces the potential for off-target side effects.
