Airnecflu is a preclinical-stage small molecule antiviral being developed by SyneuRx for the treatment of COVID-19 and Influenza. Formulated for administration via inhalation, the drug is designed to deliver therapeutic concentrations directly to the primary site of infection in the respiratory tract. Airnecflu acts as a dual-target protease inhibitor, targeting both the viral main protease (Mpro), which is essential for viral polyprotein processing and replication, and the host cell surface protease transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2), which facilitates viral entry by priming viral surface proteins. This dual mechanism is intended to provide robust efficacy and a high barrier to resistance against various respiratory viruses.
