Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AJN003 (LuCI™) is an oral, non-systemic small molecule therapy being developed by AltrixBio for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Derived from a bio-engineered version of sucralfate, AJN003 is designed to form a temporary physical coating on the luminal surface of the stomach, duodenum, and jejunum. This barrier mimics the metabolic effects of bariatric bypass surgery by shifting nutrient sensing and absorption from the upper to the lower gastrointestinal tract. This physiological shift triggers the release of satiety and metabolic hormones, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), and leptin, while suppressing ghrelin levels. As of late 2025, the candidate is in the IND-enabling phase following a Series A financing round intended to support its transition into clinical trials.
