Overview

AK116 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Akeso that targets Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). NGF is a neurotrophin that plays a critical role in the generation and maintenance of pain signals by binding to its receptors, TrkA and p75NTR, on nociceptive neurons. By neutralizing NGF, AK116 prevents these interactions, thereby inhibiting the sensitization of pain pathways and providing potent analgesic effects. AK116 is being developed as a non-opioid alternative for the management of chronic pain conditions, such as osteoarthritis pain and chronic low back pain, where traditional therapies may be insufficient or associated with significant side effects.
