Overview
Amorest 28 is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) marketed by CampusPharma for the prevention of pregnancy in women. It is a fixed-dose combination product containing the progestin norgestimate and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol. As a third-generation contraceptive, it works primarily by suppressing the production of gonadotropins—follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH)—to inhibit ovulation. Additionally, it induces changes in the cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration and alters the endometrium to discourage implantation. Norgestimate is notably associated with a lower risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared to some other progestogens. The product is typically administered in a 28-day cycle consisting of 21 active hormone tablets and 7 inactive placebo tablets.
